THE HUMAN CAPITAL
The city where a kingdom’s prestige meets the cost of keeping it alive.
Ordelain is the capital of Edrane, the seat of the human crown and the place where royal ceremony intersects with the practical machinery of government. Its streets, river approaches and public institutions make it more than a palace backdrop: they turn the siege and its aftermath into a test of daily civic life.
Edrane’s political and agricultural heart lies in the province of Ordel. Supplies reach the capital by cart and water; repairs to roads, bridges and locks determine what its markets can sell and what its army can move. Public power is made visible in religious buildings and royal processions, yet the real measure of stability is whether food arrives.
Ordelain contains unequal urban worlds. In its upper districts the infrastructure is better maintained; poorer streets depend on less reliable water, sanitation and housing. When siege closes baths and wells and overwhelms latrines, illness becomes a weapon no command can order away.

The fall of Ordelain is not an empty image of walls breached. It involves displaced families, administrative continuity, granaries and religious authority. Rovan’s claim to govern means nothing if the city’s residents cannot survive the transition from warfare to occupation.
In the later Concord Crown, Ordelain becomes the seat of the joint court and central administration, while Vharin remains the Veyr capital. The city therefore embodies a painful double identity: its former dynasty remains present, but sovereignty now extends beyond the human crown.
Waterways, granaries, bridges and roads keep the capital alive.
Disease, crowding, refugees and scarce food are as important as battlefield tactics.
After the war, Ordelain houses the joint administration of a fundamentally unequal state.
