01 / 04 · The night ends in silence
The Quieting marks the end of each standard civic cycle. Residents wake with gaps where recent experiences should be. Some memories are absent, some are unreliable, and routine begins again under the city’s reassuring announcements.
02 / 04 · What survives
Investigative training, practiced movements and feelings without a clear origin may persist. That is why Cael Corven can examine a crime scene with confidence while failing to recall the previous day. Ability and memory are not the same thing.
03 / 04 · The city in the morning
Nemorra is real and inhabited. During a cycle, access routes, civic records and certain public details can change. Yesterday’s map may lead to a closed corridor, and a familiar address can become difficult to verify. Physical traces still deserve attention.
04 / 04 · The evidence problem
Cael and the Continuity Division must compare testimony with paper records, wear patterns, objects and physical evidence. A file is not automatically a fact. An apparent contradiction may be the beginning of a genuine investigation.
A public rhythm, an unsettled history
The standard cycle occurs nightly. The absence of memory is experienced in everyday life, not merely in laboratory demonstrations. Any exception must be treated as an anomaly—not as a simple restoration of everything that was lost.
